Seafood Restaurant Plates That Tell the Story of the Sea

When Il Riccio Restaurant at Jumeirah Capri Palace needed seafood restaurant plates for their summer 2021 season, they didn’t want something off a catalogue shelf. They wanted the island on the table. The result was one of the most visually striking bespoke dinnerware collaborations we’ve had the pleasure of working on, and it’s a good example of what happens when a chef’s vision and a designer’s eye meet a glass manufacturer who knows how to execute both.

The brief came from Chef Salvatore Elefante and F&B director Luca de Coro, under the supervision of Hotel Manager Fabio Raucci and Chef Andrea Migliaccio. Together, they asked for a collection that would capture Capri’s Mediterranean spirit, vibrant, coastal, alive. The design work went to Ksenia Smirnova from 1503 Design, who translated that energy into marine motifs: crabs, lobsters, schools of fish, all fired into glass in a palette of bold red, deep blue, and clean white. Why Glass Works So Well for Seafood Dinner Plates

There’s something natural about the pairing. Glass carries the same translucency and depth as water. When a lobster dish lands on a blue glass platter with a crab motif fired into the surface, the composition doesn’t feel decorative, it feels considered. The visual contrast between the food and the plate is sharp without being fussy. Negative space reads clearly. The textures of the glass surface, the subtle ripple, the weight, add tactile interest that ceramic alternatives simply don’t offer.

For seafood menus specifically, that visual logic matters more than most. A tuna crudo, a whole grilled fish, a plated lobster, these are dishes where the plating has to breathe. The right seafood dinner plates give the food room. The wrong ones compete with it. Glass, done well, always chooses to serve the food first. You can browse the Seafood Display Trays collection for format options that work alongside plated service.

Oyster Plates, Platters, and the Full Seafood Table

The Il Riccio collection covered a full table setting, from the large oval platters that carried the main seafood courses to the smaller side plates bearing the restaurant’s signature crab motif and Il Riccio script. It’s the kind of table where every piece earns its place. Nothing is generic. And for a restaurant that sits over the sea on the coast of Capri, that level of design intentionality is exactly right.

If you’re thinking about restaurant oyster plates or a full seafood table concept, the starting point is always the same: what does the food look like, and what does the setting feel like? From there, the design brief writes itself. Our Oyster Trays collection is a good reference point, and for the wider seafood serveware picture, the Seafood Towers Catalogue shows how a full seafood service concept comes together in glass.

Despite the industry pressures of 2020 and 2021, this collection was delivered without compromise. That’s worth saying plainly. The hospitality world was under serious strain during that period. The Il Riccio collection proves that great work still gets made when the team on both sides is committed to the outcome.
