About Driftwood Restaurant at St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay
St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay is St. Regis’ first resort in South China, envisioned as a family beach resort on Hainan island, view the Beach Bar Catalogue. Furthermore, the resort features five international restaurants including Driftwood, a casual seafood restaurant with a distinctive coastal character. Moreover, MyGlassStudio worked with the hotel’s opening team on creating seafood dinnerware for Driftwood that reflects the restaurant’s natural, beachside spirit.
Designing Seafood Dinnerware for Driftwood Restaurant
When designing dinnerware for a seafood restaurant, the type of cuisine often sets the tone for the entire table setting. Furthermore, seafood tableware typically evokes blue and beige tones, marine-style details, and simple, elegant forms. Moreover, the challenge deepens when paired with casual dining, a trend that calls for a simplified, minimalist approach. MyGlassStudio met this challenge by creating refined seafood tableware that balances simplicity with distinction.

MyGlassStudio’s designers drew inspiration from the restaurant’s décor, a “fine old bleached wood boathouse” feel with wooden shutters, natural colours, and beautiful views of Yalong Bay. Furthermore, the tabletop presentation centred on show plates and bread and butter plates. Moreover, this combination created an understated yet polished seafood sharing platter setting that suited the restaurant’s casual elegance.

Show Plates with Floral Pattern and Bread Plates in Clear Glass
The bread and butter plates feature a very simple design, a rectangular shape with soft edges in clear glass. Furthermore, the show plates serve as the focal point of the tabletop presentation. Moreover, the classic round show plate shape is combined with a beautiful floral design, where only the outlines of the flowers are accentuated with colour, leaving the background and pattern interiors clear. In addition, this created a contemporary and refined plate with a flair of nostalgia for classic motifs.
Paired with bright blue napkin rings, these show plates create a perfect tabletop for a seafood dining venue. Furthermore, the blue accent ties directly to the marine character of the cuisine. Moreover, the overall seafood dinnerware setting is restrained and elegant, proving that minimalism and distinction can coexist in a beachside casual restaurant.
