About Westin Mumbai. Kangan and Prego

MyGlassStudio designed modern dinnerware pieces and custom dining set pieces for two signature restaurants at The Westin Mumbai Garden City. Kangan and Prego. Furthermore, the hotel established itself as “a contemporary oasis” in the heart of Mumbai after opening in January 2010. It offers 269 guest rooms and suites alongside signature Westin spa services. Moreover, it sits close to the Bombay Exhibition Centre and the Malad, Andheri, and Powai business districts, making it a premier destination for both business and leisure travellers. The hotel’s décor is defined by sleek forms, neutral colours, and well-placed red accents that give the interior its modern twist.

Five Dining Venues. A Diverse Culinary Offer

Westin Mumbai Garden City offers five dining and lounge venues: Eighteen Lounge & Bar, Kangan (Indian restaurant), Prego (Italian dining), Seasonal Tastes (all-day dining and buffet, view the Buffet Catering & Bar Lounge Catalogue), and Splash (casual dining). Furthermore, MyGlassStudio worked closely with the hotel to develop dining set pieces and serving pieces that would blend into the hotel’s contemporary character and elevate each restaurant’s individual identity. Each collection was designed specifically for the venue it would serve.

Kangan. Modern Dinnerware Pieces for Indian Fine Dining

Kangan occupies the 18th floor of Westin Mumbai Garden City and offers gourmet Indian cuisine inspired by the flavours of the Peshawar region with notes of the Middle East. Furthermore, the restaurant centres on the tradition of Indian family dining, featuring tasting platters and an open kitchen that invites guests to watch the culinary process. The menu includes Jain dishes, kebabs, and spicy vegetable dishes, all interpreted in a modern way. Moreover, the décor is “cosy, relaxed and vibrant”, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering stunning city views, and warm brown, red, and beige tones throughout.

MyGlassStudio used Kangan’s sleek and elegant style as a guide for the tableware pieces. Furthermore, the collection consists predominantly of red glass dinnerware, including dining plates, soup plates, main course plates, dessert plates, and bowls. Moreover, all shapes are simple and round, with the design emphasis placed on the intensity of colour rather than on surface patterns. In addition, MyGlassStudio created custom serving pieces to accommodate Indian dining traditions. These include a sauce stand with small glass bowls for sauces and chutneys, as well as a kebab holder with a glass base, bespoke dining set pieces that no catalogue could supply.

Prego. Tableware Pieces for Italian Trattoria Style

“Fun, lively and casual”, Prego aims to recreate the warm and vibrant atmosphere of an Italian trattoria. Furthermore, the restaurant specialises in rustic Italian cuisine with a modern twist, offering freshly made pizzas, pastas, and refined wines. The interior features dark wood and stone elements, an open kitchen, and al fresco outdoor dining, all in tune with the overall contemporary elegance of Westin Mumbai Garden City.

To accompany Prego’s vibrant and modern style, MyGlassStudio created tabletop items that accentuate the character of the dining venue. Furthermore, examples include red glass side dishes and glass candle votives. Moreover, these items are not only functional, they also reflect a thoroughly modern approach to tabletop design.
