tropical Dinnerware for St. Regis Mauritius Resort

MyGlassStudio designer Nana created a bespoke tropical dinnerware and tropical dinner plates collection for the St. Regis Mauritius Resort, a five-star luxury property on the southwest coast of the island. The resort sits on the white sands of Le Morne Beach, view the Beach Bar Catalogue, overlooking a turquoise lagoon and the Indian Ocean. Furthermore, it offers four distinct culinary experiences, from French-inspired and traditional Mauritian cuisine to South-East Asian and fine Japanese selections. Therefore, the brief called for food presentation objects that could honour all of these influences while feeling native to the spectacular natural setting.

Balancing Luxury and Nature in Tropical Dinner Plates

Tropical resorts present a unique design challenge. On one hand, the setting demands a sense of natural ease, breathtaking scenery, white sand beaches, and lush organic forms. On the other hand, a five-star resort requires unmistakeable luxury and refinement. Moreover, the tropical dinnerware collection had to satisfy both demands simultaneously. The result is a collection that balances the extravagant luxury of the St. Regis brand with the rich visual language of the natural world.

For example, one key piece in the tropical dinnerware collection uses square glass plates featuring a “barcode” pattern, attached to a natural limestone base. In addition, this combination of glass and stone brings together the refined and the raw, a pairing that feels entirely at home in a beachside resort setting.

Tropical Patterning and Nature-Inspired Shapes

Throughout the collection, designer Nana drew on the natural environment for inspiration. Specifically, she chose natural materials like stone and glass, tropical patterning, and a minimal style using basic colours on transparent glass. Furthermore, she incorporated free-form shapes that feel sculpted by nature rather than manufactured. The tropical dinner plates are not just functional, they are objects that guests notice, touch, and remember.

The triangular dessert plate is a striking example of this approach. Moreover, its angular form creates an unexpected contrast with the organic tropical surroundings, making every dessert service feel like a design moment. Also, the transparent glass allows the food itself to remain the focal point.

The Tropical Food Presentation Platter and Tiered Stand

In addition to the tropical dinner plates, the collection includes a free-form food presentation platter and a signature golden tree-shaped tiered stand. Furthermore, the tiered stand draws directly from nature, its branches echo the forms of the tropical palms and trees that define Le Morne Beach. Therefore, it acts as both a functional serving piece and a sculptural centrepiece that elevates any table setting.
